Romantic Things to Do in Tamarindo for Couples

Looking for romantic things to do in Tamarindo? Beyond the beach bars and sunsets, some of the most memorable moments for couples happen in nature: paddling a quiet mangrove channel together, watching baby sea turtles reach the ocean at dusk or riding along the beach. This guide from Tamarindo Estuary Tours Mi Rey lists our best options for couples and honeymooners, with real prices and an honest word on which ones make sense for two.

Short answer: for a couple, our most private experience is the private kayak tour ($100 per person, so $200 for two). For a sunset moment, choose the sunset and baby turtle release ($50 per person). For something classic, the horseback ride on the beach ($50 per person). The private boat is priced per boat ($800 for up to 10 people), so it fits groups better than couples.

Romantic things to do in Tamarindo: our picks for two

1. A private kayak tour through the estuary

This is the experience we recommend most to couples. You paddle the Tamarindo estuary into Las Baulas Marine National Park with your own bilingual guide, no other travelers, and the calm of the mangrove around you. You will see birds, monkeys and iguanas, and stop for a walk in the dry forest at your own pace.

  • About 2.5 hours, timed with the high tide.
  • Includes kayak and paddles, life jackets, a dry bag, a bilingual guide, bottled water, seasonal fruit, coconut water and transportation in the Tamarindo area.
  • $100 per person, deposit $20 per person.

Since the time follows the tide, it can be early morning one day and afternoon another. We confirm the exact time for your date by WhatsApp after you book.

2. Sunset and baby turtle release

You watch the sunset on the beach and take part in releasing baby sea turtles into the ocean, following the rules of the conservation project. It is a quiet, meaningful way to end the day together.

  • Departs from Tamarindo at 3:30 pm. Minimum 2 people.
  • Includes transportation, water and a contribution to the turtle conservation project.
  • $50 per person, deposit $10 per person. Available from November 12, 2026.

Bring comfortable beach clothes and repellent. Learn more in our guide to the baby turtle release in Tamarindo.

3. Horseback ride to ocean viewpoints and along the beach

A 1-hour ride that starts at the estuary, follows nature trails up to viewpoints with panoramic ocean views and then continues along the sand. It costs $50 per person, minimum 2, and includes bottled water and seasonal fruit. Wear long pants. If you want a longer outing, the estuary and horseback combo adds a guided boat tour for $80 per person.

4. A night turtle nesting tour

For a different kind of night out, the turtle nesting tour departs at 5:30 pm to Playa Minas or Playa Jesús to watch sea turtles come ashore to nest. It costs $60 per person, minimum 2. If no turtles are seen, we reschedule it for the next night or make it up to you with the estuary tour.

5. A quiet day away from town

Some couples like to give one day of their trip to the interior of Guanacaste: a volcano, a waterfall swim or sloths in the trees. Our full-day trips require a minimum of 4 people, so they work best if you travel with friends. If you are only two, write to us on WhatsApp with your date and we will tell you what options there are. Our day trips from Tamarindo guide compares them.

Is a private boat worth it for a couple?

We prefer to be honest here. The private boat tour costs $800 per boat for up to 10 people (deposit $160), and the price is the same whether you are 2 or 10. It includes the exclusive boat, a bilingual naturalist guide, bottled water, seasonal fruit, coconut water and beers if you like, for a 2-hour tour of the estuary.

  • It makes sense if: you are celebrating with family or friends, planning a proposal in front of a small group, or want the whole boat as a once-in-a-lifetime treat.
  • For two people only: the private kayak gives you the same privacy for $200, and the shared boat costs $40 per person if you prefer to sit back and let the captain do the work.

A simple Tamarindo honeymoon plan

  • Day 1: settle in, walk the beach and watch your first sunset.
  • Day 2: private kayak tour at high tide; in the afternoon, the sunset and baby turtle release.
  • Day 3: horseback ride along the beach, then a slow afternoon by the pool or the sea.

Practical tips for couples

  • Pickup in Tamarindo and Langosta is usually included; farther areas such as Hacienda Pinilla, Conchal or Flamingo have an extra cost, paid to the driver.
  • You pay a deposit online and the balance in cash, in US dollars or colones, on the day of the tour.
  • If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, we refund your deposit.
  • Repellent is useful on any tour near sunset or in the mangrove.

Plan your moments together with Tamarindo Estuary Tours Mi Rey: book the private kayak tour, the sunset and baby turtle release or the horseback riding tour. If you are celebrating something special, write to us on WhatsApp and we will help you choose the right tour and time.
